Brace yourselves for some explosive action because Gunpowder Milkshake delivers plenty of bullet flying fun.

In her turbulent life as a professional assassin, Scarlet (Lena Headey) was cruelly forced to abandon her daughter Sam (Karen Gillan) and go on the run. Years later, despite the estrangement, Sam has also grown up into a cold-blooded hitwoman. After a high-stake mission spins out of control, putting an innocent 8-year-old girl in the middle of a gang war she has unleashed, Sam has no choice but to go rogue. This ultimately leads her back to her mother and her former hitwomen sidekicks, who all join forces in an avenging war against those who took everything from them.

Buckle up and get ready to have your adrenaline maxed out because Gunpowder Milkshake has arrived and this film delivers a hell of a hit. Director Navot Papushado injects this film with all kinds of gung-ho gunplay and outlandish comedy, and those seeking a solid hit of bullet lead will be pleased with the chaos that is unleashed. In terms of its tone and style Gunpowder Milkshake feels like it would play well in a drive-in, and its grindhouse gore and gunplay will appeal to audiences who have a thing for violent femmes who are talented with both bullets and blades.

Rising Hollywood star Karen Gillen is quick on the draw here as Sam, the steely-eyed protagonist who runs afoul of her bosses and quickly finds herself in over her head. Luckily she’s very talented with an assortment of guns and is soon punching holes into a host of bad guys. Paired up with Gillen is Lena Heady as Sam’s absentee hitwoman mother Scarlet, and soon this mother-daughter pair are teamed up for a hell of a reunion and the bullets do fly.

For the action-minded audience, Gunpowder Milkshake delivers a heavy hit of gunplay and gore and Papushado gets inventive with the action that he brings to the screen with this one. The film’s ultimate climatic explosive moments are held for the film’s third act as Sam, Scarlet and the librarians fend off a horde of villains and the action gets explosive with plenty of blood and bullets spent.

If you’re seeking some outlandish action fun then Gunpowder Milkshake is a very fun watch and it’s sure to get action junkies going with its inventive action scenes and crazy worldbuilding.
