James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is one of 2021’s most anticipated releases, and this new film is set to be a very fun thrill ride that long time fans of this despicable cast of super-villains and now Gunn takes you through his roster of the baddest of the bad.

Here’s the official synopsis:
Imprisoned convicts of Belle Reve penitentiary are sent as members of Task Force X to the South American island of Corto Maltese to destroy Jotunheim, a Nazi-era prison and laboratory which held political prisoners and conducted experiments.
In The Suicide Squad Gunn takes audiences inside the workings of Amanda Waller’s Task Force X, a collection of the worst of the worst DC villains who she sends out on death-defying missions. And James Gunn, the creative genius that he is, has assembled one hell of a crew for this one.
There’s Idris Elba as the ‘perpetually grumpy’ Bloodshot who ‘barely has enough humanity to go and fight’; John Cena as Peacemaker, a ‘bro-eey’ defender of truth and liberty who is willing to kill anyone, man, woman or child to ensure peace; Margot Robbie as the outrageous and out of control Harley Quinn, whom star Margot Robbie says ‘is closest to the source material in this adaptation’; Rick Flag ace Special Forces officer Rick Flag, who this time ‘is kinder and funnier’; David Dastmalchian as quiet outsider Polka-Dot Man, who is the result of ‘experimentation gone wrong’; Daniela Melchior as Rat-Catcher 2 who has the power to control rats; Michael Rooker as Savant, who is described as a ‘very interesting looking individual’ by Gunn; Mayling Ng as the super-strong and fast alien warrior Mongal, who is pretty much a ‘super-bitch’; Jai Courtney as the bogan boomerang throwing Captain Boomerang; Nathan Fillion as the super annoying T.D.K; Pete Davidson as the easily manipulated Blackguard; Flula Borg as former Olympian Javelin who throws javelins, and who also posses a super sexy accent; Sean Gunn as Weasel, an animal-humanoid hybrid who literally has no idea what is going on around him and Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone as the ever-loveable King Shark!
It’s an all-star cast with some ultra impressive DC villains….and some who are, well, less impressive. Talking about the ensemble project, Gunn said “Suicide Squad was exciting for me because we’re going to introduce more DC characters than any film has ever done.”
While fans can expect all kinds of crazy action and outlandish special effects, Gunn confirms that it was the emotional sensitivity between these characters that drew him to the project and Suicide Squad star David Dastmalchian who stars as Polka-Dot Man expanded on this saying “characters considered throwaways or worthless, are very worthwhile and have incredible meaning and value.”
The Suicide Squad is shaping up to be THE action blockbuster of 2021 and audiences looking for a crazy level of fun will be in for a hell of a thrill ride when it arrives in cinemas on August 5.
