New Zealand cinema is  on a roll right now and over the past 18 months we’ve seen some extraordinary releases including the likes of Savage, Shadow in the Clouds and Cousins. Now a stunning new release to look forward to is the intense and personal drama The Justice of Bunny King…and from the looks of its first trailer this film will move audiences to tears.

Watch the brand new trailer below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Bunny King (Essie Davis) is a mother of two, a rough cut diamond with a sketchy past. While battling the system to reunite with her children, a confrontation leads her to take her niece Tonyah (Thomasin McKenzie) under her wing. With the world against her and Tonyah, Bunny’s battle has just begun.

Starring Essie Davis as the strong-willed Bunny King and Thomasin McKenzie as her niece Tanyah, this work by director Gaysorn Thavat looks to be extraordinary in its construction and utterly heartwrenching and emotionally moving in its delivery and audiences are certain to feel a plethora of emotions with this new work of cinema.

As of late Davis has been delivering hit performance after hit performance, and she showed considerable dramatic range in recent works including the excellent Babyteeth and the punk-rock flaired The True History of the Kelly Gang. But her work here in The Justice of Bunny King takes her dramatic range to an all-new level and audiences will be stunned with her transformative performance that she brings to light on the screen with this work.

The Justice Of Bunny King appears to be a work that will thoroughly move you as an audience member, and its subject matter is heavy and deeply personal, but for audiences who are looking for a truly beautiful and moving cinema experience of love triumphing over adversity, they’ll absolutely find it in this film.

Prepare to feel all the emotions when The Justice of Bunny King arrives in cinemas on July 29.
