A gripping and dream-like story of competition, obsession and seduction is set to arrive on Amazon Prime in Birds of Paradise and its new trailer certainly holds your attention.

Watch the dream-like and aetherial trailer for Birds of Paradise below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Kate Sanders (Diana Silvers) is an ambitious and gifted, if tomboyish, aspiring ballerina from Virginia who, because of her low-income status, is given a scholarship to attend a prestigious ballet school in Paris, France. Upon arriving at the cutthroat, internationally-renowned institution, her confidence and emotional fortitude are tested by a beautiful, mysterious fellow dancer, Marine Durand (Kristine Froseth), who recently lost her brother (and dance partner) to suicide. While confrontational at first, Kate and Marine’s relationship evolves into an emotionally-charged, competitive union beset by lies, sexual awakening and, ultimately, emotional breakthrough as they risk everything to win the school’s ultimate prize: a contract to join the Opéra national de Paris.

Writer/Director Sarah Adina Smith has truly captured an astonishing looking film here in Birds of Paradise and her tightly round plot and lucid, dream-like visuals are sure to hold the attention of audiences. She also has found two amazing collaborators in the form of Diana Silvers and Kristine Froseth, and these two young actresses delve deep into their characters and take audiences into a very complicated and thrilling story.

I was utterly mesmerized by this first trailer for Birds of Paradise with its images having this almost hypnotic quality to them, and the presence and commitment of Silvers and Froseth pulls you deeper into their performances. The presence of celebrated English performer Jacqueline Bisset is also something to be deeply celebrated and she is sure to only heighten the tension that grows with this story.

Birds of Paradise is a film to definitely markdown in your calendar and I’m very excited to see what comes next when it arrives in cinemas on September 24.
