Decade by decade he has re-shaped the blockbuster movie experience and now he is set to bring to the screen the operatic and timeless love story of West Side Story and this will be an utterly magnificent cinematic event.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Teenagers Tony and Maria, despite having affiliations with rival street gangs, the Jets and Sharks, fall in love in 1950s New York City.

Set against the famed ‘Tonight’ with music written by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this new trailer for West Side Story presents an utterly epic cinematic event that is sure to be a rousing experience for audiences and a very nice welcome back to the movies. Showcasing lavish visuals and colours, and crafting an utterly magical movie experience, audiences will be pulled into a world of wonder, music and timeless love and this new trailer is sure to strike a chord with audiences.

Stars Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort take on the roles popularised by Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer as Maria and Tony, and they make for a perfectly matched pair of star crossed lovers. Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist provide key support in the roles of Anita, Bernado and Riff, while Academy Award winner Rita Moreno returns as the wise Valentina.

For Spielberg adapting West Side Story is an utter dream come true and he has re-team with long time collaborator and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and screenwriter Tony Kushner to bring this story back to the big screen and the results are lavish, dramatic and heartwarming.
