The holidays are here and there’s no better time to head to the cinema with the whole family, and Sing 2 makes a fun, friendly and fantastic time out at the movies.

Can-do koala Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) and his all-star cast of animal performers prepare to launch a dazzling stage extravaganza in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There’s just one hitch — he has to find and persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star to join them. What begins as Buster’s dream of big-time success soon becomes an emotional reminder of the power of music to heal even the most broken heart.

That can-do koala named Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) is back and he’s ready to take his troop on another grand adventure to the big city with its sparkling lights and this is a film that the whole family are going to love. Director Garth Jennings returns to again shepard the next chapter in this all-singing, all-dancing animated tale and there are plenty of new lessons for Buster to learn this time around. Looking to step things up, Buster sweet talks his way into the paws of the cunning businessman and wolf Jimmy Crystal (Bobby Cannavale), and while promises are made, Buster soon learns that a wolf like Crystal is not to be trusted and he’ll have to join forces with his friends if they’re to win out in the end and see their grand vision come to life.

And what a vision it is. Sing 2 is filled to the brim with impressive visuals and beautiful artistry and the computer animation of this film is taken to a whole new level. With a fantastic science fiction narrative setting for their latest production, Buster and his troop set out to tell a marvellous tale of exploration and acceptance and when the third act does come around, and they jump into their performance, it’s breathtaking to watch. Packed alongside the music and the dancing is a great number of stories involving your favourite characters including Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), Ash (Scarlett Johansson), Meena (Tori Kelly) and Johnny (Taron Egerton), and all have new lessons and obstacles to overcome this time around. And did I mention that there’s plenty of laugh-out-loud humour thrown in for good measure as well!

Sing 2 also gets a boost from the presence of some fantastic new characters. There’s street smart, dancing lynx Nooshy played by Letitia Wright who helps Johnny to find his groove, while award-winning singer-songwriter Halsey brings out the hilarity as Portia Crystal, the spoilt, air-headed daughter of entertainment big shot Jimmy Crystal who won’t take no for an answer. But the big talent comes in the form of music legend Bono who takes on the role of Clay Calloway, an aging rockstar lion who has all but given up on music because of the passing of his beloved wife and who has no passion for song or his guitar anymore….that is until Buster comes knocking. Bono truly gives Sing 2 its soul and when he finally finds the love and power to return to his guitar strings he sets the screen on fire.

For those wanting a perfect bit of holiday movie fun, you can’t go past Sing 2. This film has it all and it’s a perfect time out for the whole family.
