Ready for an epic event of swords, blood and destiny approximately a 1,000 years in the making as the story of William the Conqueror is set to arrive in an epic TV series in King and Conqueror.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the epic and ambitious eight-episode miniseries will chronicle the destiny of Britain, and the confrontation of two ruthless warrior kings, Duke William of Normandy and Harold Godwinson and the brutal and bloody Battle of Hastings in 1066 that would change a nation’s destiny forever.

As reported Game of Thrones alumnus Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is set to headline the series alongside English thespian James Norton in the epic series. Coster-Waldau will take on the role of Duke William, better known to history as William the Conqueror who disputed the English throne and would take it by force, while Norton will portray Harold Godwinson, the last Anglo-Saxon King of Britain.

Here’s the official synopsis:

King and Conqueror is the story of a clash that defined the future of a country — and a continent — for a thousand years, the roots of which stretch back decades and extend out through a pair of interconnected family dynasties, struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea. Harold of Wessex (Norton) and William of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) were two men destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no design on the British throne, who found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown.

Fans of past epic series such as Vikings and The Last Kingdom will be left salivating at the announcement of this epic series, which will be produced in a partnership between the BBC and CBS Studios. The eight-episode series is created, written and executive produced by Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes), while Baltasar Kormákur (Everest) will direct the premiere episode and, as executive producer, will steer the creative across the series. Norton will also serve as an executive producer on the series, while in addition to starring in the lead role, Coster-Waldau will also direct an episode and serve as an executive producer.

I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life to see the epic story of the Battle of Hastings brought to the screen, and with the talent and creativity set to bring this epic series to life, I think we could be in for something truly incredible when King and Conqueror arrives on the small screen next year.
