Jack Black and Paul Rudd are more than ready to go native, plunging headfirst into the jungle for Anaconda: a wild, unhinged, and gloriously self-aware remake-of-a-remake that fully embraces its own stupidity. Loud, ridiculous, and relentlessly entertaining, this is exactly the kind of sunburnt, beer-in-hand summer blockbuster chaos audiences could use right about now.

Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic “classic” Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed……

Reimagining the infamously “so-bad-it’s-good” 1997 cult creature feature, Anaconda leans hard into meta comedy. Rudd stars as Ronald “Griff” Griffen Jr., a hapless wannabe actor still chasing relevance, while Black plays Doug McCallister, a washed-up filmmaker reduced to shooting daytime wedding videos and clinging desperately to his glory days. Together, the two best friends hatch a truly terrible idea: head into the jungle to make an indie, found-footage horror remake of Anaconda itself.

What could possibly go wrong?

Joining their doomed expedition are corporate lawyer and former actress (and Griff’s long-lost crush) Claire Simons (Thandiwe Newton), and substance-abusing, lovable disaster Kenny Trent (Steve Zahn). From there, the film gleefully spirals into madness—murderous smugglers, brutal jungle terrain, collapsing egos, the harsh realities of “production,” and, of course, one freakishly massive, extremely hungry snake. The result is a perfectly calibrated holiday comedy blockbuster that keeps the laughs coming while gleefully torching any remaining sense of dignity.

Director Tom Gormican finds a confident rhythm here, delivering a film that doubles as both a love letter to the original Anaconda and a celebration of the inner fanboy obsession with nostalgic trash cinema. The comedy is broad, shameless, and aggressively stupid; in the best possible way. This is big, dumb fun with its foot jammed firmly on the accelerator, and it never once pretends to be anything else.

The chemistry between Black, Rudd, Newton, and Zahn is spot-on. You can feel how much fun they’re having, and that infectious energy carries the entire film. Black goes full unhinged goblin mode, Rudd plays the straight-man-in-denial to perfection, Zahn steals scenes with chaotic abandon, and Newton grounds the madness just enough to keep it all from collapsing.

Best of all, Anaconda is a film best experienced going in cold. The shocks, surprises, and escalating absurdity hit harder when you let its heavy-metal insanity wash over you. The final showdown: featuring one BIG ASS SNAKE and a whole lot of chomp-chomp carnage will have audiences hooting, hollering, and shifting excitedly in their seats.

Anaconda knows exactly what it is: goofy, shocking, expansive, and unapologetically ridiculous. It won’t cure your fear of snakes, but it will absolutely deliver one hell of a laugh. A cracking good time, plain and simple.

If there was ever a game that screamed pure, unfiltered creativity, it’s Minecraft. With its boundless sandbox world, limitless potential, and universally beloved aesthetic, bringing it to the big screen was no easy feat. But, thankfully, A Minecraft Movie rises to the challenge and delivers a wildly entertaining, family-friendly experience that is packed with humor, heart, and an undeniable sense of adventure.

Four misfits — Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) — find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like piglins and zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Jack Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.

Helmed by director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), A Minecraft Movie embraces the offbeat humor and energetic storytelling that he’s known for, crafting a film that is as zany as it is endearing. Fans of the game will be in awe at the dazzling level of world-building, as the Overworld is brought to life in all its pixelated, blocky glory. This is Minecraft as you’ve always imagined it—a realm of infinite creativity where anything is possible, and A Minecraft Movie taps into that sense of wonder with pure joy.

Jason Momoa sheds his usual brooding action-hero persona to let loose as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, a washed-up 1980s video game champion desperately attempting to rebrand himself as a modern-day life coach. Swept up in the bizarre and unpredictable chaos of A Minecraft Movie, Momoa delivers a comedic tour de force filled with offbeat charm and some truly hilarious motivational misquotes. Seeing Momoa take on a role so utterly different from his usual stoic warrior archetype is refreshing, and he proves he has comedic chops in spades. His performance is filled with energy and just the right amount of self-awareness, making Garrett an absolute scene-stealer.

If you thought A Minecraft Movie couldn’t get any wilder, enter Jack Black as Steve, the Overworld’s guardian and resident master builder. Black is in full School of Rock and Tenacious D mode here, radiating the infectious, larger-than-life energy that only he can bring. Whether he’s belting out epic rock ballads or guiding our heroes through a series of increasingly ridiculous block-building escapades, he is a joy to watch. Steve is equal parts mentor, shaman, and chaotic wildcard, and Black relishes every single moment. His performance is the beating heart of the film, and audiences, both kids and their parents, will love every second of his antics.

Adding another layer of hilarity to the mix is Jennifer Coolidge as Vice Principal Marlene. Ditzy, delightfully off-kilter, and as eccentric as ever, Coolidge is an absolute riot. Her character’s involvement in the Overworld’s collision with the real world results in one of the movie’s most outrageous (and surprisingly heartwarming) subplots, including a very interesting love story that has to be seen to be believed. Coolidge has a gift for stealing scenes, and here, she’s in peak form, delivering some of the biggest laughs of the film.

Beyond the comedy, A Minecraft Movie is a visual spectacle. The seamless fusion of live-action and CGI gives the Overworld an immersive, tactile feel, capturing the blocky, pixel-perfect aesthetic of Minecraft with incredible attention to detail. Every biome, every build, every mob is brought to life with stunning accuracy, ensuring that fans of the game will feel right at home. The special effects work is nothing short of dazzling, and whether it’s explosive creeper encounters or elaborate Redstone contraptions, everything feels pulled straight from the game itself.

At its core, A Minecraft Movie is more than just a wacky adventure, it’s a celebration of creativity, imagination, and community. The film carries a powerful message of inclusivity and open-mindedness, reminding audiences that the only limit to what we can achieve is our own imagination. It’s wholesome, uplifting, and leaves you with a sense of boundless possibility, much like the game that inspired it.

With its perfect blend of laugh-out-loud comedy, stunning visuals, and heartfelt storytelling, A Minecraft Movie is a must-watch for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Whether you’re a hardcore builder or just looking for a fun night at the movies, this film delivers in every way.

You might think you know the game, but the game knows more than you and now it’s evolved in the long-awaited sequel to classic family film Jumanji, in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. And it’s one incredible ride.

After four teenagers, Spencer (Alex Wolff), Bethany (Madison Iseman), Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain) and Martha (Morgan Turner), are sent to detention they discover a long-forgotten video game called Jumanji. Suddenly sucked into the game they assume the games four lead avatars; Dr Smoulder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Franklin “Mouse” Finbar (Kevin Hart), Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon (Jack Black), and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan) and must learn to trust each other and work together if they are to finish the game and return to the real world.

While many questioned the need for a sequel, especially with the late passing of Robin Williams, I can firmly say that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is one very well-crafted film. Director Jake Kasdan does something special with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and uses the new film’s setting of an over-the-top video game to his advantage. This setting and its ‘in-game rules’ make for a fresh approach to the Jumanji franchise and leads to many unexpected surprises.

When talking about Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle one can’t look past its impressive cast and how they work within the film. While major leading Hollywood stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillen lead the film, it’s actually their ‘real-life’ players Spencer, Fridge, Bethany and Martha that control their performances. This leads to some absolutely hilarious comedic moments such as Johnson’s paralyzing fear and aversion to danger on Spencer’s behalf, Hart’s heightened weaknesses which include both speed and strength, even though Fridge is a football player, Jack Black’s valley girl, air-headedness that result from Bethany’s penchant for status updates and selfies and Karen Gillan’s basket case Martha who becomes one hell of butt-kicker with her penchant for dance fighting, although her flirting skills still need a little bit of work. As an audience member, it’s great to see all of these actors play against type and to really dive into their ‘real world’ characters.

If I had to select a favourite character it’d fall between Smoulder Bravestone/Spencer and ‘Mouse’ Finbar/Fridge for me. I loved seeing Dwayne Johnson poking fun at himself and playing off his Jock stereotype as a full-on nerd and Kevin Hart just goes for it with plenty of outlandish humour and his new found zoology knowledge definitely cracks you up.

Trust me when I say that you won’t stop laughing while watching Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The humour is quick and fast here and all of the major stars get their chance to throw their personalities into the film. If there is a standout in terms of comedic performance though then it most definitely has to be Jack Black as Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon/Bethany, a cartographer who takes on the persona of a spoilt, bratty, self-involved social media princess and Black completely owns it! With his hips shaking from side-to-side and his high pitched voice Black is hysterical and his performance as Bethany is sure to leave a smile on your face.

But while Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is filled with laughs and action it’s also a profoundly deep film that analyses themes such as friendship, loyalty and courage. One of its sticking points is that you have to accept courage and do everything you can to actually live your life, cause you’re only going to have one of them. This message is particularly inspiring and as the main characters learn to accept themselves for who they are they find their strength in one another to help finish the game. I wasn’t expecting for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle to be so deep, but I’m glad that it was because the message that it gives its audience is a very reassuring and triumphant one.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a whole lotta fun, and if you’re looking for some big-level blockbuster entertainment this Christmas then I highly recommend you get along and see it. Packed out with laughs, action and some adorable characters, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has everything you want out of blockbuster entertainment…and it sure is wild!
