At over three minutes in length, his new trailer presents the beauty and majesty that Villeneuve brings to the big screen with his adaptation of Dune and the resulting piece of cinema will take audiences into Villeneuve’s own theatre of the mind now brought to life as he achieves a childhood dream of bringing this story to the cinema screen.

Watch the all-new trailer below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

In the far future of humanity, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) accepts the stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, the only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, “melange” (also called “spice”), a drug that extends human life, provides superhuman levels of thought, and makes faster-than-light travel practical. Though Leto knows the opportunity is an intricate trap set by his enemies, he takes his Bene Gesserit concubine Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), young son and heir Paul (Timothée Chalamet), and most trusted advisors to Arrakis. Leto takes control of the spice mining operation, which is made perilous by the presence of giant sandworms. A bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert.

This new Dune trailer gives audiences a key insight into the events of this blockbuster movie and mark my words, this film will be an event that all must witness up on the big screen. Having been lucky enough to have witnessed a special IMAX preview event of Dune, and having witnessed the first 10 minutes of footage I can say that without-a-doubt this film will very much be a cinema defining event movie. And audiences the world overr will be enthralled by what they witness.

With a phenomenal cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Javier Bardem and Stellen Skarsgard, Dune is a cinematic event for the ages, and this new film will totally blow your mind away with the images and story that it brings to life.

The new trailer has terrific energy and action attached to it, and the scope and scale of this project and the attention to detail that Villeneuve’s brings to this futuristic and planet-defining tale of science fiction is sure to leave a big impression on audiences, both those new to the material, along with established Dune fanatics.

The spice must flow, and with it the brand new trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s much anticipated Dune has arrived and it looks utterly legendary.

Check out the full trailer below:

Here’s the official synopsis

In the far future of humanity, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) accepts stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, the only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, “the spice”, a drug which extends human life, provides superhuman levels of thought, and makes foldspace travel possible. Though Leto knows the opportunity is an intricate trap set by his enemies, he takes his Bene Gesserit concubine Lady Jessica (Rebecca Fergusson), young son and heir Paul (Timothée Chalamet), and most trusted advisers to Arrakis. Leto takes control of the spice mining operation, which is made perilous by the presence of giant sandworms. A bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert.

Check out my full trailer reaction for Dune below:

Coming in at just over 3 minutes in length, this new trailer for Dune presents a grand overview of Villeneuve’s epic film which charts the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), heir to to the House Atreides, who must grow from boy to man on the harsh desert planet of Arrakis, which contains the most precious substance in the entire universe, ‘the spice melange’.

Everything about this blockbuster film screams epic, and Villeneuve brings his deep level of detail and focus to realizing Frank Herbert’s Dune in all it’s glory. From it’s cast scale and fascinating wold building of its unique futuristic art and design to the stunning cast of characters, Villeneuve’s Dune is truly shaping up to the be the cinematic event of the year and film fans will be in for an amazing treat with this one.

Joining Chalamet is an amazing cast of the world’s best performers including Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem. Those who take prominent positions in this first trailer include Chalamet, Zendaya, Rampling and Momoa, and there’s plenty of incredible detail to pull in audiences thanks to the grand visuals of cinematographer Greig Fraser and the majestic sample of Hans Zimmer’s new score.

The visuals of Dune look incredibly striking and dynamic and as is his process, Villenue has drawn on natural light and in-camera affects to stagger the massive scale and size of Dune’s universe. A balance of light and shadow also clearly flows through the frames of this film and Paul’s prophetic dreams and the horrors of the Harkonnen horde are shown in all their glory up on the screen.

Dune is far and away my most anticipated film, and this trailer is a phenomenal watch from beginning to end and sets the stage for something mythic and incredible when it arrives in cinemas on December 26.

When it comes to master storytellers they don’t come much bigger than Stephen King and when reflecting on the works of this famed author, his novel, The Shining, looms above all as one of, if not the most revered horror novel of all time. That book, along with the seminal and genre-defining film from director Stanley Kubrick has been the golden standard for the horror genre for decades and now it’s time for the next chapter. Filmmaker Mike Flanagan picks up the torch and takes audiences back to the horrors of the Overlook Hotel with Doctor Sleep and this adaptation makes for one very impressive piece of filmmaking.

Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the ‘shine.’ Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality. Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.

Adapting Doctor Sleep as both writer and director, Mike Flanagan is recognized as a keen King connoisseur following his work on such films as Gerald’s Game and now this talented filmmaker gets to work on a long-overdue sequel. Flanagan pours all of himself as an artist into Doctor Sleep, and the result is a work that is packed full of originality and makes for an incredibly clever watch. While most audiences these days can dissect a horror movie pretty quickly, Flanagan’s understanding of King’s source material and Kubrick’s adaptation allow him to build out a piece of cinema that keeps his audience guessing at every turn. His narrative moves at a solid pace, and his work on Doctor Sleep turns into a ‘thinking man’s’ type of horror movie. Every part of this is packed full of unique craft and detail and Flanagan’s vision for Doctor Sleep truly leads to a film that can be branded as one of the most original pieces of cinema this year, along with being a film that will please both fans of King and Kubrick.

Taking on the lead role of a now-grown Dan Torrence is Ewan McGregor and the Scottish thespian shines here. McGregor’s Dan goes on quite a journey through the film’s narrative and his character arc kind of moves from Z to A, rather than A to Z. When we first meet him he’s below rock bottom and the ghosts can’t seem to leave him alone. But when he finally stumbles upon a new purpose in his life he’s able to use his shine productively…for a time anyway. Then, of course, the darkness rears its head and Dan is straight back into the nightmare realm and it gets very interesting from here. McGregor’s performance is subdued here and revolves around the emotion of fear. He’s able to showcase a totally haunted man and you empathise with Dan’s lot in life because of it. Doctor Sleep is a credit to McGregor’s skill as a performer and he brings his A-game here.

Facing off against McGregor is Rebecca Ferguson as the nefarious Rose the Hat and Ferguson brings plenty of menace to the big thanks to Doctor Sleep. As the leader of a cannibalistic cult who feeds on the life force or ‘steam’ of those possessed of the shining, she’s not one to be crossed and her hunger is terrible. Part of Ferguson’s intrigue in her villainous form as Rose the Hat comes from the character’s cunning and intelligence. She’s a woman on a mission, who carries a dark and dangerous cause and who desires to amass ever greater life and power by taking from those who shine…and she has no qualms about doing it. This makes her an incredibly dangerous adversary for Dan Torrence and the young and gifted Abra (Kyliegh Curran). Every great story needs a compelling villain and Rose the Hat is a terrifying force to be reckoned with and Ferguson nails the character and her menace here.

Doctor Sleep is a film that works on every single level. From character to narrative and especially concerning its brilliant visual effects as Flanagan rethinks the notion of the shining. The director employs great use of surrealism to take audiences inside the minds of our main character as they employ their shine, and the resulting visuals and his mind-bending footage takes you further inside the narrative onscreen. And it’s impressive to witness. As to the film’s use of horror Flanagan saves the bulk of this for Dan Torrence’s penultimate return to the Overlook Hotel and there’s plenty of scares here. Flanagan amps up the horror of the Overlook and the dread builds as you fully realise that this is the most terrifying place that Dan Torrence could ever return to…and for good reason too.

Doctor Sleep is a well crated and extremely clever piece of cinema that audiences will certainly lap up. Its director’s vision and the talent of its key cast make it one of the most original films to arrive in cinemas this year and should you witness it you’ll be extremely glad you did. Although maybe keep a night light handy…because there’s plenty of scares to keep you up in the dark.

The horrors of the past rush back to the surface with plenty of full on terror in Mike Flanagan’s creepy adaptation of Doctor Sleep, the haunting sequel to The Shining.

Watch the terrifying new trailer below:

Here’s the full synopsis:

Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the ‘shine.’ Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra (Kyliegh Curran) has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.

Ever since I first heard that an adaptation of Doctor Sleep was in motion I was very excited as to what the result would be, and this new trailer does not disappoint. Bathed in terror and awash with the mental scarring of King’s masterpiece novel, along with the haunting reflections of Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 quintessential horror film, The Shining, Doctor Sleep is going to take audiences on a terrifying mind trip.

Ewan McGregor looks particularly good as the now grown Dan Torrence, who has not been able to shake off the ghosts of the childhood trauma that he suffered at the hands of his mad father Jack and the macabre presence of The Overlook Hotel. While he’s tried to do something good with his life, the hurt of the past still hangs over him and this will lead to some very interesting places here in Doctor Sleep.

Joining McGregor in this freaky new horror watch is Rebecca Ferguson as cult leader Rose the Hat, and she has a terrifying connection both to the horrors contained in The Overlook and to Dan himself and their confrontation will lead to all kinds of chills for the audience.

Director Mike Flanagan, really appears to be in his element here and he’s crafted something that feels truly terrifying. Pulling from both King’s novel and Kubrick’s cinematic adaptation, there’s an eerie familiarity to Doctor Sleep here thanks to its many visual cues, and the film carries a sickly styled cinematic palette that only adds to the nightmarish sense of dread that is building up around us.

The mission is a go as Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise returns as daredevil super spy Ethan Hunt in the sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Cruise raises the bar and takes the action genre to a whole new level here.

When an IMF mission ends badly, the world suddenly faces dire consequences. Feeling responsible for the fallout, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) personally takes it upon himself to complete the mission, but the CIA begins to question his loyalty and his motives. Finding himself in a race against time, while being pursued by a host of ruthless assassins, Ethan will have to use every bit of his considerable willpower to complete the mission and stop a global catastrophe.

Cruise is back for this, his sixth installment, of the long-running Mission: Impossible series and he has again found the edge of the action genre and decided to push it even further. Whenever you hear that Tom Cruise wants to return as Ethan Hunt you know that he’s ready to step things up a notch. And the bar keeps getting raised. From hanging upside down in the middle of CIA headquarters to free soloing in Moab, Utah to performing a full fulcrum swing dive in Shanghai and running around the edge of the Burj Khalifa before finally deciding to hang outside on the edge of a Atlas C1, Cruise absolutely knows no limits as Ethan Hunt and with each successive installment he plans to go bigger and bolder.

Why you ask? Not only does this stem from his desire to offer his audience the best possible time out at the movies, but I personally feel that to Cruise the Mission: Impossible franchise are his most personal film works. So much of himself as a performer and a man is wrapped up in the character of Ethan Hunt and that’s exactly where we come to in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. While the stunts and narrative will really have you wrapped up, here we get to discover what really makes Ethan Hunt tick and why he’s willing to risk his life so many times over for the sake of the world. What we discover is a profoundly moving answer and it will really make you more thankful that a man like Ethan Hunt is on our side. Cruise gives 110% and then some with this performance and he truly succeeds in entertaining his audience.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is film that also brings everything together for the fans and this all stems from Cruise. On the narrative level it goes right back to the first film and threads all of the events of Ethan Hunt’s life back together. It’s a very ambitious move for Cruise to lead the film in this direction but it really pays off and once more allows us to go in deeper on the character of Ethan Hunt.

But Mission: Impossible – Fallout is not simply a one man show as it takes a team of visionaries working together to pull together these gigantic world saving action extravaganzas and that’s exactly where Cruise’s long time collaborator Christopher McQuarrie comes into the frame.

Following up on their work together on Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, both director and star engage in what is really their first ever direct sequel to a Mission: Impossible film. They kick things off quickly and the action of the narrative ramps up fast. You can see that McQuarrie really wants to deliver on the spectacle that he first offered in Rogue Nation and the director succeeds in pushing the envelope even further. As a director he takes a hand in both the narrative and the action work and under his guidance Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the most practically shot action blockbuster of all time. McQuarrie put the emphasis on the real and the intensity absolutely shows up on screen taking your breath away with each new scene.

Along with his talents for narrative and action, McQuarrie also has an eye for talent and this led him to cast Henry Cavill as the antagonistic August Walker, a brutal CIA assassin who definitely has an axe to grind with Hunt. Cavill’s Walker stands in direct comparison to Cruise’s Hunt, as a hulking brute of a man Walker has no qualms about using blunt force to achieve his missions objectives and has little time for the ‘Halloween tricks’ of the IMF as he likes to call them. This puts him in direct opposition to Cruise’s Hunt and the firework do fly.

Cavill’s performance is his best yet and I’m not just talking about his scene-stealing mustache here. He really goes for it as Walker and his presence is an intimidating one at that. You completely buy him as the assassin sent in to ‘mind’ the IMF and Cavill does a great job at changing certain parts of the mission to suit his own agenda. I’m always interested to see an actor try something different and move to stretch themselves in the performance of their craft and that’s exactly what Cavill does here.

Along with the introduction of Cavill we also see the return of Rebecca Furguson as MI6 operative Ilsa Faust and this time Ilsa is pursuing her own agenda. While I can’t really go into details on her character’s involvement without running the risk of leading to spoilers I will say that her presence here offers plenty of new choices for Ethan and sparks do indeed fly. This introduction of a good dose of underlying romance really changes things up for Ethan this time and Ilsa’s presence is an interesting story thread. Naturally Ferguson again offers up a great performance and proves why she is becoming a vital part of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

And of-course your favourites are back as well. Once again Simon Pegg and the ever dependable Ving Rhames prove why they are stalwarts of the Mission: Impossible franchise. These two misfits really make up the heart of the franchise and any time they’re up on screen I always find myself smiling a little wider.

But now lets move to a more serious topic. You said you wanted action? YOU GOT IT! As an exercise in filmmaking Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the most practically shot action blockbuster ever made. Forget green screens. Forget stunt doubles. This is Tom Cruise in action, up on the big screen and absolutely going for it. And he truly holds nothing back this time. From a death defying HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) jump to a gnarly motorbike chase around the Arc de Triomphe to the stunt to end all stunts in the ambitious Helicopter chase, Mission: Impossible – Fallout has it all. Trust me when I tell you to strap yourself into your chair because your adrenal gland is going to be working overtime with this one.

While I’m trying to hold back on what occurs on screen I will say that the Helicopter Chase scene which was shot down in Queenstown, New Zealand is a truly exceptional piece of filmmaking. You’ve never seen anything like this before and I can’t think of anyone brave enough or indeed crazy enough to jump into it like Tom Cruise. Every single moment has Cruise at the throttle and he really takes you for a ride in this one. This is a countdown of nail-biting adrenaline as the action ramps up and up and up. With this scene you’re truly witnessing the genius of Cruise and McQuarrie and it’s a rush.

If you’re looking for an action experience to take you to the next level then you’ll definitely find it with Mission: Impossible – Fallout! This is a blockbuster made of pure adrenaline and it’s exactly what the movies were meant for and trust me when I say that it really is one hell of a fun ride.

Here’s the synopsis:

Following an unsuccessful career as a banker, Phineas Taylor Barnum (Hugh Jackman) takes a chance on his passions and creates the world’s most elaborate circus act, The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

The Greatest Showman has long been Jackman’s passion project and he has nurtured the film from script to screen for the past seven years. Alongside director Michael Gracey, Jackman is promising audiences a lavish visual spectacle that will recall the grand musicals of the 1930s and 1940s and will once again allow him to unleash his voice just as he did back in 2012’s Les Misérables.

Joining Jackman in the film is a very talented supporting cast including Zac Efron as Barnum’s assistant Phillip Carlyle, Rebecca Ferguson as famed opera singer Jenny Lind, Zendaya as trapeze artist Anne Wheeler and Michelle Williams as Barnum’s wife Charity.

The Greatest Showman is a cinematic spectacle that audiences won’t soon forget so prepare to run away to the circus on December 25 in the US and UK and on December 26 in New Zealand and Australia.

The exhilaration of discovery and the horror of annihilation come face-to-face in Daniel Espinosa’s creepy science-fiction horror film Life.

Set in the not so distant future, Life follows the activities of a group of astronauts and scientists on the International Space Station, as they discover a brand new alien discovery from the planet Mars. But their initial celebration soon turns into a mission of critical containment, as their discovery turns against them, threatening the very existence of the Earth itself.

If you’re looking for a sci-fi thriller horror ride then Life is worth your money. Throughout its engaging 103 minutes, Espinosa takes audience expectations and throws it back in their faces with some intriguing twists and breathtaking scares.

Espinosa and noted screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have crafted a well-thought haunted house of a movie that focuses on a core group of astronauts that include Jake Gyllenhaal as Dr. David Jordan, an American medical officer; Rebecca Ferguson as Dr. Miranda North, a British quarantine officer; Ariyon Bakare as Hugh Derry, a British biologist, and Ryan Reynolds as Rory Adams, an American engineer and pilot officer of the ISS.

But Life is not a character study, and the action ramps up quickly with the discovery of a single cell alien organism of nerve and muscle tissue that is christened Calvin. It’s here that the trouble begins, and Espinosa unleashes one of his most potent themes: humanity’s god complex.

Excited by his discovery, Bakare’s Derry is soon obsessed by the growing organism, and sees it as a possibility to potentially cure the deadly paralysis that has crippled him on earth. Constantly poking and prodding the new specimen, he soon incites its anger. It is Derry’s belief in his own superiority and intelligence that puts Earth in danger, and is a chilling reminder that no man can ever be as clever as the universe.

Espinosa raises the stakes again and again with a series of thrills as Gyllenhaal, Ferguson and Reynolds desperately try to contain Calvin within the ISS. Every tragic misstep by the crew is well thought out, with Espinosa presenting his characters with tough decisions and multiple-choice pathways. Turn to the left and escape, or turn to the right and face death. The choices are far from simple, and as an audience member you’re caught off guard just as much as the astronauts are.

Life also makes special use of its unique setting: outer space. Ninety-five percent of the action is set in zero-gravity, and it’s thrilling to watch the long steadicam passes as our heroes glide through the silent corridors of the ISS doing their best to outsmart Calvin. Espinosa also uses the space of the ISS in an interesting way, at first presenting it as this stunning piece of human ingenuity before turning it into a twisting and jagged maze of dangerous turns.

Extensive CGI is used to make the most of the film’s space setting, and to realise the ever-evolving creepiness of Calvin. At first appearing as nothing more than a piece of muscle tissue, this alien life form grows into a terrifying mess of a creature.

Bold and original, this film contained one of the most shocking and memorable endings that I can remember seeing in a long time. Life means to scare and shock…and it certainly accomplished both.
