The new footage teases a bold, dazzling animated adventure that promises warp-speed fun as Mario and friends embark on their biggest quest yet.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) join Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) on an adventure into outer space and across the galaxy to face off against Bowser’s son, Bowser Jr (Benny Safdie).

Following the previous teaser that introduced the fan-favourite Yoshi, this new trailer raises the stakes considerably. Mario, Peach, Luigi and Toad suddenly find themselves in a whole universe of trouble as they contend not only with the tyrannical Bowser, but also his ambitious heir Bowser Jr.. What follows looks like a race across galaxies, with cosmic obstacles, wild creatures and dazzling new worlds standing between our heroes and total catastrophe.

To celebrate the arrival of tickets going on sale, Universal Pictures New Zealand is preparing something truly spectacular for local fans. On the evening of Saturday, 14 March, Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower will light up with a massive projection event inspired by the film.

The large-scale display will transform New Zealand’s tallest landmark into a cosmic canvas, bringing the vibrant worlds of Mario’s galactic adventure to life in what’s being billed as an industry-first spectacle — a full-video projection celebrating Nintendo and Illumination’s next animated event.

Fans eager to catch the action live can head to:

• The base of the Sky Tower at SkyCity Auckland from 8:00pm to midnight on Saturday, 14 March
• Or anywhere in the city with a clear view of the tower lighting up the skyline.

It’s a fittingly big celebration for a franchise that has defined gaming for generations, and with Mario now blasting into the cosmos, the scale of the adventure is only getting bigger.
