There’s nothing like a good horror story to get you binging a series in quick succession is Prime Video’s juicy new series, The Consultant will freak audiences out with its equal mix of dark comedy and twisted scares in what is one of 2023’s most memorable series to date.

Regus Patoff, a mysterious consultant, comes to the rescue of CompWare, a mobile gaming company, after the murder of its CEO, and seemingly starts running the company.

Adapted from the novel by cult horror author Bentley Little, The Consultant is a twisted little gem of dark-comedy horror. Its themes of work place oppression, sociopathic managers, and the horrors of the office are sure to put many audience members on edge. With its solid mix of both the horror genre and the satirical, The Consultant is a dark fantasy of work place terror, and from the moment it starts audiences will be completely on edge. And don’t try to anticipate what comes next which each episode of this dark little gem, you’ll never be able to guess what follows and that’s where the fun lies.

Cast as the myserteous, stern lead character Regus Patoff is two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz, and this renowned thespian crafts a delicate, deadly and sinister portrayal of pure corporate evil. A crafty, whimsical and sociopathic character in every facet possible, Waltz is effortless as the disquieting Patoff, and his mere presence is sure to make your skin crawl. With his odd quirks and cold stare, Waltz is ominous shadow right from the beginning, and his horrifying pattern of behaviour is certain to leave audiences in a disquiet and frightful state.

Facing down Payoff are Brittany O’Grady as executive assistant Elaine Hayman and Nat Wolff as slacker coder Craig Horne. And both are drawn into Patoff’s dark intentions very quickly. Whole Wolff has plenty of fun as the prerequisite millennial stoner Craig, O’Grady comes into contact as Elaine with Patoff early, and the results make for an intense watch. Both of these young performers hold their ground with a thespian like Waltz, and they both keep audiences guessing with their performances.

The Consultant is a quick series that moves at rapid pace and its stroking mix of dark horror, and sly comedy makes for a winning combination. There’s a lot to hook you in with this series, and audiences who are seeking something different and a television genre that will scratch their morbid sense of curiosity will be well rewarded with this one.

The Consultant is currently available to stream on Prime Video.

Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron realise a dream come true of pure science fiction visual spectacle with Alita: Battle Angel and the result is a completely mesmerizing piece of cinema that transports you to a fantastical far away future that enchants in every way possible.

From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (Avatar) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City), comes Alita: Battle Angel, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognise, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realises that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.

Good things often take time, and that could not be truer for Alita: Battle Angel which has long been acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron’s passion project. Together with director Robert Rodriquez, a man who shares Cameron’s passion for rebel filmmaking, these two men accomplish what can only be described as the next step in science-fiction cinema with a terrific level of immersive realism and cutting edge CGI.

Best described as a science-fiction fairytale, Alita: Battle Angel enchants audiences with its magical future world and pulls you deeper into the action and narrative of a young cyborg’s quest to discover who she really is. It’s easy to see why Cameron and Rodriguez were drawn to the subject matter of Alita: Battle Angel with its exploration of themes related to technology, female empowerment and class structure, plus there’s plenty of room for amazing action sequences. Alita: Battle Angel offered Cameron and Rodriguez a truly remarkable canvas to craft the ultimate science fiction experience and they sure did deliver with Alita: Battle Angel.

Alita: Battle Angel is Rodriguez’s biggest production to date and the rebel filmmaker brings his considerable visual skills to play here. As a director, his focus is on keeping the action moving and right off the bat he gets things in motion. When we first discover Alita she is a completely empty shell of a being and like us, she grows into the world around her. It’s a great narrative device to build exposition for an audience, while also allowing for a natural character arc of growth for Alita. While the film may be science-fiction in nature, Rodriguez gives it a certain structure and style reminiscent of classic fairy-tales and this allows him to explore Alita’s journey with more depth as she comes into her considerable powers.

There is no Alita without the presence of young lead Rosa Salazar and she gives an incredible heartfelt performance here. If I were to use a word to best describe Salazar’s performance then the word genuine comes to mind. The young actresses’ performance is incredibly naturalistic and we get to watch as she grows from a young girl to a woman, and comes into control of her considerable power which allows her to find her place in a strange new world. Salazar’s Alita reminds me somewhat of Alice as she wanders through this magical new technological Wonderland and the character gives her plenty of opportunities to show off her considerable theatrical range from innocent doe to full-on cybernetic warrior. What’s even more remarkable about Salazar’s performance is that she portrays the character completely through CGI and the performance capture and computer wizardry of the wizards at Weta Digital brings out her stunning performance up on screen.

Joining Alita in her quest of discovery is Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz who finds a change of pace here as the kindly Dr. Dyson Ido who brings Alita back to life and becomes her de-facto father in this strange new world. While Waltz may be the go-to guy for dangerous villains and eccentric misfits, I really enjoyed seeing him take on a completely different character which allowed him to show off his gentler side. As Dr. Ido you get a real sense that this is a character who cares deeply for those that he helps with his clinic and through the presence of Alita he is able to once again be a father. But while he might be a man who saves, Ido also gets his hands dirty as well and he introduces Alita to the Hunter Warrior lifestyle and he also gets his chance to get his fight on in the film’s dynamic action sequences.

Every hero needs a villain to test them and Alita finds hers in the charismatically dangerous Vector played by Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali and he really puts the young cyborg to the test. As Vector, the man behind the spectacular gladiatorial game of Motorsport he casts a sinister shadow over the citizens of Iron City as a Hades-like figure who is the king of the scraps and overseer of the haves and the have-nots. Ali is all class and style here and it’s a role that really allows him to stretch with his considerable theatrical range. With his devilish flair Vector makes for a threatening presence for Alita and he truly tests our young heroine in every way possible.

Along with our key cast, Rodriguez also packs the film out with great supporting players, and there are also plenty of fun cameos as well. On the live-action front, we see the appearance of the likes of Jennifer Connelly as the technically proficient surgeon and scientist Chiren, who is desperately searching for her way back to Zalem. Connelly gives the character of Chiren a real femme fatale flair that is coated with a dangerous glamour and a calculating mind, and she makes for a great foil for both Salazar and Waltz with her Machiavellian personality. Turning to the CGI front we get a host of dangerous cyborgs and rising British star Ed Skrein brings plenty of punk rock flair to his portrayal of pretty boy Hunter Warrior Zapan, who has a large chip on his shoulder and who takes an instant dislike to Alita which slowly builds up to an adversarial battle between the two of them. Also, keep your eyes peeled for a host of great cameos from Rodriguez regulars such as Michelle Rodriguez, Eiza González, Jeff Fahey and a whole host more, with plenty of surprises thrown in there as well.

Along with its strong narrative, Alita: Battle Angel is packed out with incredible action set pieces and Rodriguez really gets to flex his creativity here. As Alita finds her true power she unleashes an incredible physical force and all evil-doers should fear this warrior because this girl really kicks ass. As she battles an army of robots and cyborgs the action is realized in full 360 motion as she lets loose with a barrage of targeted punches and kicks that tears apart the motors and gears of her combatants, and in the immersive landscape of IMAX 3D you feel the rush of all of it.

But if I have to call out my favourite part of Alita: Battle Angel then it is most definitely the savage and ferocious sport of Motorball. A gladiatorial mashup of NASCAR, ice hockey and mixed martial arts that comes flying at you at over 300km/h, Motorball makes for one hell of a rush! Sliding on her skates and jumping into the thrills, Alita brings a tremendous grace to this brutal sport and when she learns that the game is rigged, well, let’s just say that it’s game on! This robotic smash and bash rollercoaster will have you hanging on for dear life and it’s one hell of a visual thrill.

Alita: Battle Angel is a tremendously beautiful piece of science fiction cinema and offers up a bold new world and amazing heroine for cinemagoers. It’s a rush that will set your senses on fire from beginning to end and make sure you see it in glorious IMAX 3D…because this is one experience you don’t want to miss out on.

After years of absence from the jungle, John Clayton, Lord of Greystoke (Alexander Skarsgard), the man once known as the hero Tarzan, returns to Africa on a diplomatic mission for the Crown. Joining forces with American soldier and explorer George Washington Williams (Samuel L. Jackson), Clayton uncovers the harsh realities of the Congo under the rule of King Leopold of Belgium. But his discoveries lead to the kidnapping of his beloved wife Jane (Margot Robbie) by the vicious mercenary leader Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz), and Clayton is forced to return to his savage nature.

In a tale of high adventure and wild romance, Tarzan of the Apes lives again thanks to the genius and passion of director David Yates. Working from the idea that audiences know the basic history of Tarzan, Yates takes his story in a different direction, focusing on his central character’s return to nature, and rediscovery of his inner savage as he fights to save the ones he loves.

Holding his own on the big screen as Lord John Clayton/Tarzan is Alexander Skarsgard, whose physical commitment to the character is clear to see. Skarsgard truly gives his all as this classic hero, and his transformation from mere mortal to jungle beast (which has been well documented) definitely shows on screen. Skarsgard is the truest representation of Edgar Rice Burrough’s character that I’ve ever witnessed, and he balances an animalist strength with grace and agility as he swings through the jungle. But while his physical skills are outstanding, it is his handling of the Tarzan’s emotional core that really impresses. He crafts the presence of a man who is lost between two worlds and racked by the pain of not belonging.

Joining Skarsgard’s Tarzan in his adventures is Margot Robbie as his beloved wife Jane Porter. But this is not the Jane of yesteryear, and this fiery redhead is no damsel in distress. Pragmatic, feisty, sharp, quick-witted and sassy, Robbie’s Jane is a fireball who throws back quick one-liners and gives as good as she gets, utilising her unique knowledge of the jungle to bring out the worst fears in her captors. Whether playing up the seriousness of her character’s kidnapping or the love she has for Tarzan, Robbie is completely committed to the character, and completely steals every scene she’s in.

Joining these two phenomenal young talents is Hollywood legend Samuel L. Jackson, who has plenty of fun as true life explorer and adventurer George Washington Williams. Williams uses Tarzan’s mission to the jungle as a way to right wrongs and uncover the misdeeds of greed and corruption of a foreign power. Giving both support and wisdom, Jackson’s adventurer provides the audience with a deeper insight into the character of Clayton as he transitions back to the man he once was as Tarzan, and he’s also first into every action scene with his own set of big guns.

Tarzan is always one to have a worthy adversary, and it doesn’t get much better than Christoph Waltz as the disturbing Captain Leon Rom, a mercenary with his own agenda and whose nastiness knows no bounds. Waltz definitely applies considerable creep factor in his face-to-face meetings with Jane, and his total lack of empathy for human life is chilling to watch.

The Legend of Tarzan combines amazing practical effects and CGI to bring to life the untamed wilds of the jungle, and the great apes who rule it. Skarsgard’s interactions with his ape family are beautiful to watch, and his challenge for leadership of the pack makes for a brutal action set piece. Praise must also be given to Henry Braham’s exquisite cinematography, which captures the rich colours and vast scale of the jungles of the Congo. Audiences will find themselves getting lost in the grandness of the sights that appear in front of them.

With a superb story, great characters, epic action and amazing visuals, The Legend of Tarzan is a film experience that will have you gripped from beginning to end.

We’re just weeks away from seeing Edgar Rice Burroughs’ jungle hero Tarzan being brought to life on the big screen in David Yates’ The Legend of Tarzan, and while previous trailers have made it clear just how much action we can expect, Yates appears to have also added a healthy dose of truth and two formidable historical characters into this adaptation.

While star Alexander Skarsgard is sure to enjoy plenty of vine-swinging action as the mighty Lord of the apes, it’s his mission in the jungles of the Congo that draws out the historical implications of the film. Set during the height of the Belgian occupation of the Free Congo State, Skarsgard’s Clayton will find an ally in real-life Civil War veteran and African American historian George Washington Williams, played by the legendary Samuel L. Jackson.

Williams’ involvement in the plot is crucial to the story. Following the American Civil War, he travelled to the Congo and was witness to the atrocities inflicted upon the natives by the Belgian contingent on orders from King Leopold II. Leopold had invaded the Congo region in an effort to exploit the lucrative ivory and rubber trades that were established there, and he was not above using terror to get what he wanted. In 1890, Williams took steps to address these atrocities publically to both the king and the international community in a damning letter and legal case, where he called for an investigation to be carried out.

Williams’ real-life journey will provide the backdrop for The Legend of Tarzan, where he teams up with the fictional hero to bring down the Belgian contingent and save Jane. In the trailers released so far, Samuel L. Jackson’s Williams is shown as a dynamic man of action, who will do whatever is necessary to restore justice.

The film has been given another historical touch in the form of Christoph Waltz’s chief antagonist Captain Leon Rom. This debonair but twisted villain has the cadence of a big game hunter, and appears to bear some kind of personal vendetta against Tarzan. Waltz’s portrayal appears to be in keeping with his real-life counterpart, who was a sadistic Belgian soldier appointed to annex the Congo State. He personally enslaved many Congolese into forced labour camps, and showed no mercy to those who fought back. His villainy was so well known that he even inspired famed author Joseph Conrad’s infamous Colonel Kurtz in a Heart of Darkness. Waltz has long had a skill for villainy, and he should prove to be a worthy adversary for both Tarzan and Williams.

The Legend of Tarzan will be released in theatres on June 30 in New Zealand and Australia and on July 1 in the US and UK.

The lord of the jungle is set to make his return to the big screen in less than a month, and now a beautifully crisp IMAX trailer takes audiences even deeper into the heart of The Legend of Tarzan.

In addition to showcasing the film’s breathtaking cinematography, the trailer also gives us an insight into Tarzan’s youth amongst the Gorilla tribes of the Congo, as well as showcasing more of the pulp hero as the gentlemanly Lord John Clayton the Third.

Director David Yates appears to have done an amazing job with Edgar Rice Burrough’s iconic character, and Alexander Skarsgard has turned himself into a beast of a man to truly convey the strength and agility of this jungle warrior.
The new trailer is packed with epic passion, and high action adventure, and introduces audiences to the Tarzan story from his birth in the jungle, to his adoption by the female gorilla Kala. It also reveals glimpses of his life in the wild, before he returns to the world of men to live out his life with his great love Jane Porter (Margot Robbie). Skarsgard looks absolutely heroic and at the peak of physical perfection as Lord John Clayton III, the man once known as Tarzan.

While Skarsgard holds the attention of the screen as the athletically gifted and silent hero Tarzan, his presence is magnified by the film’s supporting players including Robbie as the gorgeous and strong-willed Jane, who is definitely no damzel, while Christoph Waltz is perfectly villainous as Rom, who appears to have the cadence of a big game hunter who is looking to mount Tarzan’s own head upon his trophy case.

Packed with bone crunching fights and epic sweeping jungle swinging action, the world’s first pulp hero is back, and ready to enthral audiences when The Legend of Tarzan opens in theatres on June 30 in New Zealand and Australia, and on July 1 in the US and UK.

Alexander Skarsgard will have to re-discover the animal within in director David Yates’ big screen adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s legendary jungle hero in The Legend of Tarzan.

Years have passed since John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke (Skarsgard), left the jungles of the Congo and he has now transitioned to the life of an English gentleman in 1880s Victorian London. Summoned by the Queen, Clayton and his beloved wife Jane (Margot Robbie) are dispatched back to the Congo as emissaries of Parliament. But when Clayton runs afoul of an old enemy, the despicable Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz), and Jane is taken from him, he is forced to return to his true nature as Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle, and take back what was taken from him.

While Tarzan may have made his first appearance back in 1914, Yates is promising an entirely fresh. In discussing what audiences can expect, Skarsgard, in an interview with USA Today said, “it’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast. This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.”

Yates is also promising a very 21st century take on the character of Jane Porter, explaining that she is “in no way a passive partner to Tarzan. She’s a really strong, assertive, beautifully knowledgeable, very sexy modern woman who can more than look after herself.”

Yates’ supporting cast are just as impressive as his leads with Samuel L. Jackson playing real-life soldier George Washington Williams, Djimon Hounsou as Tarzan’s ally Chief Mbonga and Christoph Waltz who is teasing another tantalizing and vile villain as Belgium mercenary Captain Rom.

The Legend of Tarzan is set to roar into cinemas on June 30, 2016 in Australia and New Zealand, July 1, 2016 in the US, and July 8, 2016 in the UK.

The final trailer shows off some very dynamic action sequences, as well as giving audiences the most detailed look at Bond’s sinister new adversary Franz Oberhauser (Christoph Waltz).

In the aftermath of the attack on MI6, a cryptic message sets in motion events that will see James Bond come face-to-face with the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE. While Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), the newly appointed M, continues fighting political pressures that threaten the future of MI6, Bond discovers that the only way to unravel the web of conspiracy is to protect the innocent daughter of a powerful enemy. Following a trail from Mexico to Italy, Austria and Morocco, he is forced to operate outside his purview as he is drawn into a confrontation with an enemy from his past.

Packed with non-stop action, style and a killer storyline, director Sam Mendes is pushing for SPECTRE to be the grandest entry in the James Bond mythos. SPECTRE is set to premiere on October 26 in the UK, followed by a general release of November 6 in the US, and November 12 in Australia and New Zealand.

In the aftermath of the attack on MI6, a cryptic message sets in motion events that will see James Bond come face-to-face with the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE. As Gareth Mallory, the newly appointed M, continues fighting political pressures that threaten the future of MI6, Bond follows a trail from Mexico to Austria and Morocco as he is drawn into a confrontation with an enemy from his past; one who holds a dangerous secret that will force him to question the value of everything he has fought to protect.

In addition to a leaner and meaner Bond, we also get our first look at Lea Seydoux’s Dr. Madeleine Swann, Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx and Christoph Waltz as the dangerous Franz Oberhauser.

Following on from the triumph that was 2012’s Skyfall, director Sam Mendes and star Daniel Craig have created a dark, compelling and exciting new chapter of the James Bond mythos with Spectre which will arrive in cinemas on November 6.
