Mayans Against All. The proclamation of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (J.D. Pardo) rang out at the end of Season Four of Kurt Sutter and Elgin James’ Mayans M.C. and promised an intense final season as the Mayans went to full-out war with the Sons of Anarchy. And EZ Reyes would soon learn that heavy lies the crown.

Right from the very start of Season Five, Mayans M.C. amped up the intensity and lead showrunner, writer and director Elgin James made things brutal for JD Pardo’s EZ and the Mayans. All-out war has consumed them, and they have waged a brutal and devastating battle with a rogue element of the Sons of Anarchy San Bernardino chapter, led by the volatile, psychotic and unhinged Isaac Packer (JR Bourne). With each successive season of Mayans M.C. the series has ramped up the force of the narrative, and this has been by clear design, courtesy of showrunner Elgin James. But I don’t think anyone expected it would get this crazy so quickly.

While Season Four’s shocking and explosive final season made for a combustible action, its consequences would be felt in Season Five. And we were witness to these right from the start. With their heroin war chest burnt to ashes and a traitor’s presence felt, J.D. Pardo’s Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes took the brunt of the cost for this failure. And soon, the bodies started to stack up. Elgin James knew that the clock was running out for EZ and the Santo Padre chapter of the Mayans M.C. right from the start of Season Five, and he held nothing back. Each episode built and built across this season, and the scramble for survival pulled you in with each episode. James doesn’t hold anything back with the intensity of the series, and a reckoning is coming.

For five seasons, audiences have watched with anticipation and been caught up in the journey of J.D. Pardo’s Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes. The former golden boy of a proud Mexican-American family who succumbed through tragedy to a life he never wanted and who rose through the ranks by skill, dominance and cunning within the Mayans M.C. Now club Presidente, he faces the very real threats of responsibility, and he was in for a hell of a wake-up call as the blood flowed and the bodies stacked up. Pardo reaches deep inside to bring out a hell of a dangerous and shadowy performance as EZ realises the depths of darkness he must go to rule in this dog-eat-dog world. And it’s damn convincing. With each episode, he’s dragged deeper and deeper into the abyss, the poisoned crown of the M.C. wearing him down and removing any notion of civility from him. It’s a hell of a thing to watch, and Pardo is damn cold in his portrayal of EZ this season.

Clayton Cardenas as Angel Reyes, finds new ground to explore now as a loving father and husband, and it’s clear that the M.C. life, and his brother’s brutal war, are not in Angel’s interests anymore. What we see in Season Five with Cardenas is a complete 180 reversal. While Angel started out as a rebel and wise-cracking lothario within the world of the M.C. his new life has changed him, and his brother is now the savage he could never be. Angel’s relationship with EZ is tested by Elgin James in this series, and there are some absolutely shocking moments that audiences won’t see coming with these two.

The evolving and twisted relationship between Sarah Bolger’s Emily Thomas and Danny Pino’s Miguel Galindo continues to evolve this season, and despite her best efforts to escape the violence of her husband’s family and business, Emily is reluctantly still at his side. Danny Pino as Miguel Galindo, finds new opportunities, along with the shadow of the past now haunting him, and both of these broken characters have to deal with a familiar and venomous snake. While there is still a touch point between Emily and EZ, any hope of a happy ending for them is now completely gone, and it’s clear that Emily is about is crack. And brutally.

Finally, JR Bourne makes his return as the unhinged and psychopathic Isaac Packer. Having assumed control of SAMDINO entirely, he’s gleefully eager to wage war and bring fire and death to the Mayans this season. Since Season Three, Bourne has brought a hyped-up mania to the series as the crazed Isaac, and it only gets more nuts since with him now in control. His drugged-up psychedelic philosophies and violent actions will freak audiences the hell out, and it’s clear that only complete destruction of the Mayans will satiate him. Bourne’s Isaac is one of the most volatile and consuming villains in recent television history, and he takes the insanity to a whole new level in the final season of Mayans M.C.

Season Five of Mayans M.C. is bold and violent, and with each episode, every character is playing for keeps, and death is at every corner. Elgin James understands that it’s do or die for the M.C. this season, and he’s holding nothing back. There are plenty of twists and turns, plus some great surprises that take audiences unexpectedly in Season Five, and it makes for a hell of a ride. There’s also a defined and deliberate darkness in Season Five, and the very real consequences of EZ’s choices are made clear episode by episode. The fire grows larger, and EZ’s quest for dominance is ready to consume all those around him.

The end of the road looms for EZ Reyes and Mayans M.C. with the forthcoming and penultimate episode of the series in ‘Slow to Bleed Fair Son’, and we’ll have to see who ends up as top dog in this brutal kill or be killed world. But the larger question remains, will EZ Reyes be able to escape from this world of violence and death and redeem his soul, or will the life take him.

Mayans MC currently streams on SKY GO and NEON.

Deadline reported on the forthcoming fourth season, confirming that the fourth season will premiere in 2022.

“Elgin James, his creative collaborators, this incredible cast and crew delivered on another epic season of Mayans M.C.,” said Nick Grad, President, Original Programming, FX Entertainment. “Through three seasons, Mayans has told stories that resonate well beyond the border where the club thrives and survives, inviting fans inside their world and giving them a seat at the table.”

Added James. “I am deeply indebted to everyone at FX and 20th for allowing us to continue to tell the stories of the characters that Kurt and I created and whom our cast and crew took to new heights in Season 3. In Season 4 we look forward to diving deeper into each character’s truths, exploring the danger of the combustible world they inhabit, and for each writer, cast member and crew to stake out our place as storytellers.”

Season Three of Mayans MC carried a very different flavour than the previous two seasons, and it was surely lost on no one that the stakes were all the more higher this season. Focusing on a brutal internal power struggle amongst the Mayans, stemming from the consequences of Ezekial ‘EZ’ Reyes (J.D. Pardo) choices, season three of Mayans MC was frought with explosive twists and violence kicked off at every single second.

The shocking concluding moments of season three have set the stage for something incredibly dark in the forthcoming fourth season and with nowhere to turn and nothing left to lose EZ Reyes is sure to let the beast out in what comes next.

Season Four of Mayans MC will premiere in 2022 and season three and season two are currently available on Neon.

Well we’re still in lock down, but never fear because there’s still plenty of amazing television shows for you continue to binge watch in this whole close down period.

Check out the follow-up to our first Ultimate Binge Guide below:

Taboo

When it comes to actors who exemplify the alpha male character, Tom Hardy ranks at the top of the list and here he gives a dangerous, calculating, violent and sometimes depraved performance as haunted outlaw James Keziah Delaney in Taboo. Boasting the talents of showrunner Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), Taboo was developed by Knight, alongside Hardy and his father Chips, and takes audiences back to the London in the dark side of the 19th Century and pits Hardy’s outlaw Delaney against the might of the East India Trading Company. Taboo is a slow-burn drama, and it’s a dark and burning affair as Hardy brings forth his inner savageness as Delaney as he does everything he can to undermine the authority of the mighty East India and claim his birthright. From political conspiracies to cannibalistic murder, Taboo is an absolute riot of a series and it certainly makes you sit up straight.

Sons of Anarchy

Regarded as one of the greatest TV series of all time, Sons of Anarchy is synonymous with the word badass, and this tale of outlaw bikers and their quest to live free is straight up cool TV. Charting the story of the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club and their heir apparent Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller (Charlie Hunnam), as he tires to find a balance in his life after becoming a new father, Sons of Anarchy has some of the best characters ever committed to the small screen, including the calculating Gemma Teller (Katey Segal), a Lady Macbeth type-character who will do anything to see her son control the club, and to regain her influence over him. With roaring Harley Davidson’s, hard-rocking metal music, outlaw brawls and intense gunfights and a ravenous orgy of sex, drugs and outlandish behaviour, Sons of Anarchy was punk rock television in it’s purest form, and it’s intense narrative gripped you from beginning to end. It remains as one of my favourite television shows of all time, and I highly recommend you take this ride.

The Deuce

New York City, 1971. Time Square is a bombed out ruin of mob-controlled bars, massage parlors and porno theatres, and in this turbulent and flamboyant era a collection of cool cats and kittens make it there own. Recalling the classic style of films such as Mean Streets and Taxi Driver, The Deuce is a wild-ride through the excess of the 1970s and 1980s and charts the rise of pornography industry from those who ran it and profited from it. Series creators David Simon and George Pelecanos pull no-punches with this series, and it’s packed together with some amazing performances from the likes of James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal. There’s a definite superfly cool with The Deuce and fans will dig the authenticity and detail of the production design, costuming and cinematography, along with it’s ultra fly MoTown score. The Deuce is a gripping narrative of a complex group of people in a turbulent era and for those wanting some serious drama, it makes for a must watch piece of entertainment.

First we had the intensity of Sons of Anarchy, and series creator Kurt Sutter, along with rising screenwriter Elgin James, expands on the concept of Sons of Anarchy in a whole new context with Mayans MC, which swaps the outlaw lifestyle of Southern California and transports us instead to the dangers of the Mexican border and a new outlaw lifestyle. Mayans MC finds us following the life of Mayans prospect Ezekial ‘EZ’ Reyes (J.D. Pardo), a young man who was once the all-American boy before his life took a chance for the worse and led him down the outlaw life. Mayans MC is filled with the similar outlaw-crime style that we first saw in Sons of Anarchy, but comes at it with an entirely different take here, and with it’s Mexican-American flavour, and a host of new characters and plots, makes it one of the best pieces of television to be watching at the moment.

A martial arts-action-western from the mind of Bruce Lee and brought to life by the minds behind Banshee? Yep you heard me right and you should most definitely be watching Warrior! Adapted from martial arts legend Bruce Lee’s original 1970s television pitch, Warrior is one of the most exciting new releases to arrive on television, and it’s combination of the western and martial arts genre makes for something entirely unique. Following the adventures of kung fu prodigy Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), who comes to San Francisco in the searching for his long, lost sister and gets caught up in the violence of the Tong Wars. The action is brutal, and the cinematography beautiful as showrunner Jonathan Tropper transports audiences to a different era with a narrative that is incredibly gripping and Warrior makes for an extremely rewarding watch.
