Here’s the official synopsis:

The film tells the story of Hig (Jacob Elordi), a young pilot who, together with a military survivalist, Bangley (Josh Brolin), has carved out an efficient but isolated homestead in a brutal post-apocalyptic world. But when Hig receives a mysterious radio transmission, he ventures into the unknown in search of the hope and humanity he still believes exist.

Building off of the original teaser trailer, this new trailer for The Dog Stars delivers an elevated view of its scary world, along with focusing in on the broken psyche of its lead protagonist Hig (Jacon Elordi), a skilled pilot and survivor who is desperate for a chance to escape, and might have found a way to salvation.

Jacob Elordi is truly the man of the moment, and it’s exciting to see him join Sir Ridley Scott for The Dog Stars, and he brings a certain Steve McQueen presence to the role of Hig, and is joined by a stellar supporting cast including the likes of Josh Brolin as Bangley, an aloof, gun-toting ex-Marine and Hig’s companion; Margaret Qualley as Cima, a young medic and Hig’s love interest, and Guy Pearce as Pops, a former Navy SEAL and Cima’s father.

The action is ramped right the way up as well, and The Dog Stars goes hard on its exploration of its science-fiction, post-apocalyptic world, and Scott gives the action is certain gritty feralness that will keep audiences on edge the whole way through.

Life After High School

High school is over for the residents of East Highland, and the real world has come calling, with all its harshness intact. Season Three wastes no time establishing its new tone. Opening episode ‘Ándale’ hits with a ferocious intensity, moving at breakneck speed and immediately signalling a dramatic shift in both scale and stakes.

Set four years after the events of Season Two, Levinson re-centres the narrative around Ruby ‘Rue’ Bennett, portrayed once again by Zendaya. But this is not the Rue audiences remember. Rue at Rock Bottom

Zendaya’s Rue remains the beating heart of Euphoria, and Season Three places her in its darkest territory yet. Now juggling life as a part-time Uber driver and full-time criminal, she is a character in freefall, surviving moment to moment, clinging to whatever fragments of control she can muster, and trying to find any sip of hope she can taste.

Yet even in her lowest moments, there’s a flicker of something more. Rue has always been a character defined by contradiction: self-destructive, yet deeply empathetic; reckless, yet searching for meaning. Meanwhile Cassie, is chasing a different kind of validation, turning to social media stardom with provocative ambition for any sort of attention she can muster. But it has dire results. There’s also the impending wedding, and Cassie’s fairytale vision is something she will not compromise on, and this leads to a severe and caustic ultimatum from her to Nate that is sure to have profound consequences for the two of them. Their clashing desires create a powder keg of tension in ‘Ándale’, one that feels destined to explode.

Elsewhere, Alexis ‘Lexie’ Howard (Maude Apatow) has escaped to Hollywood, working as a production assistant and chasing creative fulfilment far removed from her sister’s chaos. Still in contact with Rue, audiences can sense that she’s deliberately keeping her sister at arms length, and when the inevitable family reunion does happen it will no doubt be a combustible event.

Meanwhile Cassie’s former best friend, and Nate’s long time ex, Madeleine “Maddy” Perez (Alexa Demie) has stepped out into her own version of ambition, and is navigating the entertainment world as a would be publicist, with her trademark confidence and hunger, but gaining the life she had always destined for herself has so far evaded her, and the grind is certainly starting to get to her.

Each of Euphoria’s characters feel like they’ve evolved, yet none have truly escaped who they are, and it adds to the tension and drama of this evolving third season.

New Players, Greater Danger

Season Three also introduces and expands upon figures who deepen the show’s increasingly dangerous world.
Colman Domingo returns as Ali, Rue’s sponsor, still attempting to guide her toward redemption while sensing the storm gathering around her. And his depth and presence remains as one of the show’s few moral anchors.

Meanwhile, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje makes a striking impression as Alamo Brown, a strip club impresario with an ominous reach into the criminal underworld. Exuding a quite menace, and savage willpower, his position and developing relationship with Rue hints at a larger role to come, and he’s an instant scene stealer, that builds out a sense that this is only the beginning of something far more dangerous.

A Radical Shift in Style

With Season Three of Euphoria, Sam Levinson doesn’t just evolve the story; he reinvents the aesthetic language of it completely.

Season Three adopts a surprising stylistic influence, channelling the wide, sun-scorched visuals of the Western. Burnt ambers, rustic oranges, deep tans and browns, and striking yellows, the true pallete of the great Sergio Leone are present throughout ‘Ándale’, and this delivers a new edge to the visuals. There’s an almost No Country for Old Men-like tension running through the series, with its blend of stark landscapes and sudden, unpredictable violence.

The show’s signature dreamlike visuals remain, but they’re now filtered through a harsher, more grounded lens. Saturated colours give way to a sweaty, lived-in realism, reflecting the characters’ descent into a more unforgiving world. The shift in setting, spanning Los Angeles and Texas, only enhancing this new frontier-like atmosphere.

It’s a bold creative decision, and one that pays off. The world of Euphoria feels bigger, more dangerous, and far less forgiving.

Vice, Desire, and Temptation

True to form, Euphoria doesn’t shy away from its exploration of vice. Season Three continues to push boundaries, with ‘Ándale’ laying the groundwork for a narrative steeped in excess.

She is the embodiment of Dorrigo’s lost innocence, the one path he never got to follow.

Amy is not the only woman whose presence defines Dorrigo’s life. Olivia DeJonge plays Ella, the woman he marries, but never truly loves. Her younger portrayal is juxtaposed with that of Heather Mitchell’s older Ella, a woman who has spent decades beside a man she never fully understood. Mitchell is heart-wrenching in her quiet realisation, portraying a woman who has lived in the periphery of another’s life, all while yearning for connection. Then there is Essie Davis as Lynette, Dorrigo’s late-in-life companion, resulting from a scandalous yet heartfelt affair. Unlike the others, Lynette sees through to the man beneath the myth. Davis brings an earthy tenderness to her role, grounding Dorrigo in a kind of peace he has spent his entire life chasing.

The emotional layers of The Narrow Road to the Deep North are formidable, but Kurzel’s direction ensures that none of it ever becomes overwrought. Instead, he leans into restraint, allowing the performances and visuals to speak volumes. His use of color and cinematography is nothing short of masterful. The “summer of love” sequences glow with warmth; pinks, yellows, and soft blues suffuse the screen with possibility. In stark contrast, the POW sequences are filmed in grimy browns, murky greens, and oppressive mustard tones, evoking the dehumanising filth and claustrophobia of life on the Death Railway. By the time we reach the muted palette of 1989, the collision of past and present has become a visual metaphor, the lingering trauma bleeding into every corner of Dorrigo’s existence.

Kurzel’s collaboration with Shaun Grant is particularly worthy of praise. Their screenplay maintains the novel’s poetic cadence, embracing the complexity of Flanagan’s prose without ever succumbing to indulgence. The nonlinear structure is executed with deftness, each narrative shift revealing new dimensions to the characters and their relationships. Just as Flanagan believed that our lives are shaped by one or two definitive experiences, so too does the series echo this philosophy. Moments are returned to, reexamined, and reframed, reminding us that the past is never static, but always evolving in our memory.

Equally significant is the miniseries’ unflinching depiction of wartime brutality. Kurzel does not glamorise or romanticise the POW experience. Instead, he presents it in raw, harrowing detail: men wasting away from malnutrition, brutal beatings by Japanese guards, desperate surgeries performed without anaesthesia. The camaraderie between the men is the only flicker of hope, and even that is undercut by the looming spectre of death. These scenes are not easy to watch, but they are essential in honouring the ANZAC spirit and the sacrifice of those who endured this chapter of history.

And yet, The Narrow Road to the Deep North never wallows in despair. It finds beauty in the small moments, laughter between friends, the warmth of touch, the memory of a summer kiss. It is a series as much about resilience as it is about ruin, as much about love as it is about loss.

The score, courtesy of composer Jed Kurzel, is orchestrated with elegant minimalism, enhancing the emotional landscape without overpowering it. Long silences are used to devastating effect, forcing the audience to sit with the characters in their grief, in their longing, in their solitude. It is here that Kurzel’s restraint becomes his greatest asset. He trusts the story, the actors, and the audience enough to let the emotions simmer quietly, but thunderously.

Ultimately, The Narrow Road to the Deep North is not merely a period drama or a wartime narrative. It is a deeply human story about the lives we live, the loves we lose, and the moments that define us. It is about the scars we carry, and the questions we never find answers to. Justin Kurzel has created something enduring: a piece of art that bleeds truth. This miniseries will not just move you. It will change you. It is a solemn reminder of the cost of survival, the ache of missed chances, and the enduring light of love, even in the darkest of places.

Debuting on Prime Video’s Instagram channels, Elordi fans were treated to a new look at the series, including a new poster and feature images, and this was in line with the production world premiere at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival. It was Elordi’s first appearance at the Festival, and the young actor was genuinely moved and proud to be in attendance at the event, celebrating a uniquely Australian story that means a lot to him.

When teenager Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) meets Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi) at a party, the man who’s already a meteoric rock ‘n’ roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, and a gentle best friend.

The story of Elvis and Priscilla is a legendary romance that came to symbolize the quintessential Hollywood love affair. Their jet-setting romance was legendary, with both of them leaving a mark on the very fabric of pop culture. Through the lens of extraordinary vision, celebrated and auteur filmmaker Sofia Coppola, the story of the Presleys comes to light in a bold new conception that celebrates the King and Queen of Memphis. And audiences will easily get caught up in it. While you may think you know the Elvis story, Coppola’s film is not in keeping with the same style or tempo as Luhrmann’s acclaimed biopic. Instead, Priscilla sheds new light on the Elvis mythos via her perspective and the journey from girlhood to womanhood that she undergoes during the film’s narrative.

Framed uniquely from the point-of-view of Priscilla herself and adapted from her autobiography Elvis and Me, we follow Priscilla as a 14-year-old as she first meets Elvis while he’s stationed in Germany in 1959, and a relationship builds between the two of them that sees her moving to Graceland, and eventually marrying the King of Rock n’ Roll. It’s a whirlwind fantasy story as she falls into the fun and excesses of Elvis’s superstar Hollywood life. But the glitter of the party soon begins to fade as Presley’s antics, via the encouragement of his ‘Memphis Mafia’ leaves Priscilla weary, alone and isolated; it’s a side of the Elvis story that we’ve never really seen before. Coppala’s attention to Priscilla’s frame of mind and emotional vulnerability gives the film a dramatic edge that will leave audiences curious and surprised.

As a cinematic experience, Priscilla is beautiful. Coppola and her team re-create the glamour of the late 1950s to mid-1960s, and the resulting images are a visual spectacle for the eyes. Utilizing a range of crisp pastel colours and evoking the classic Hollywood style of the decade, the ambience of Presley’s jet-setting, glitzy lifestyle is infectious to witness, and you genuinely get the feeling of what it would have been like to live that life. Special praise must be given to cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd, who re-teams with Coppola following their work on The Beguiled, and again, they spin more of that special kind of magic on this picture. Le Sourd baskes the film in a glow of soft light that helps solidify the emotion and makes for a gorgeous presentation.

Cast as Priscilla Presley and given the role of bringing her story to life is rising star Cailee Spaeny, and she is an absolute revelation in part. Through Spaeny’s performance, we witness the growth of Priscilla’s journey from girlhood to womanhood, and she undergoes a considerable pattern of change as she falls into the world and rhythms of Graceland. In terms of a word to best describe Spaeny’s performance, the word ‘sincere’ works best, and Spaeny is very sincere in her representations of Priscilla’s journey throughout the film. She has a great range of emotions that she gets to play with in her performance as Priscilla and is true in keeping to her portrayal and honouring the real life that Priscilla led.

Starring opposite Spaeny’s Priscilla is Jacob Elordi, and his presence and swagger in the portrayal of the King is precisely why he’s tipped to be one of Hollywood’s newest A-listers. Elvis Presley was a massive personality of grand talent, and that’s precisely why Elordi is a fantastic fit for the role. He fits the mould of the Hollywood dreamboat, and ever the professional works hard to step into Presley’s shoes and bring Elvis to life. His portrayal of the King makes for a complex performance, with his Elvis being both true and loving to Priscilla but almost stuck in his sense of ‘arrested development’ that has afflicted him due to his sudden youthful fame. We also see a volatility in Presley and a sudden ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ persona in Elordi’s presentation of Presley that grows from the pressures around him. It’s a brave performance from Elordi and shows how far his range will take him in Hollywood.

Priscilla is an exceptionally intriguing and passionate film with a unique rhythm and style that will keep audiences on their toes. It presents the unexpected side of the Presley mythos that we have never seen before. All those involved have put in a lot of effort to make it a beautiful and exceptional watch.
