Here’s the official synopsis:
The Narrow Road to the Deep North is a savagely beautiful five-part series charting the life of Dorrigo Evans (played by Jacob Elordi as a young man, with Ciarán Hinds as the older Dorrigo), through his passionate love affair with Amy Mulvaney (Odessa Young), his time held captive in a POW camp, and his later years spent as a revered surgeon and reluctant war hero.
Adapted from Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name. and adapted for screen by writer Shaun Grant (Nitram, Snowtown) and directed by Justin Kurzel (The Order, Nitram), The Narrow Road to the Deep North promises to bring a rollercoaster of emotions to audiences, and to highlight a critically important piece of WWII, and the horrors that Australian POW’s faced at the hands of the Japanese Military in Burma. Alongside this story of war-time trauma, and the horrors of war, The Narrow Road to the Deep North also promises an incredibly deep story of romance and first love, and the quest for Elordi’s Dorrigo Evans to keep that part alive in himself as he does everything he can to survive.
Elordi brings everything of himself as a performer to this part, and leads an impressive cast which includes the like of Ciarán Hinds (Belfast), with Odessa Young (Mothering Sunday, Shirley), Olivia DeJonge (Elvis), Heather Mitchell (Love Me, Upright), Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice), Thomas Weatherall (Heartbreak High), and Simon Baker (Limbo, Breath).
The new trailer also presents an incredible production that highlights the broad talents of Australian film and television creatives, and showcases an array of incredible performances from the key cast. Filmed in New South Wales, Australia, you can sense the longing of the cast and crew to honour the legeacy of the men who served for their country, and Elordi’s connection with his home country is on display.
The Narrow Road to the Deep North is an intimate character study of a complex man, a compelling portrayal of the courage and cruelty of war, and an unforgettable love story that sustains one through the darkest of times.
The Narrow Road to the Deep North is a story that promises to touch your heart and soul in the most profound way possible, and this five-part event series will be a must watch when it arrives on Prime Video on April 18.
