These new images of Hemsworth’s mysterious cult leader in the forthcoming crime-noir ensemble piece showcase the Hollywood star as a charismatic cult leader who along with a handful of other strangers including Jon Hamm, Jeff Bridges and Dakota Johnson find themselves at the classic El Royale Hotel with one last shot at redemption.
Hemsworth praised the script, and the director, Drew Goddard, on his Instagram page and described the production as featuring “one of the best scripts I’ve ever read”. It’s particularly high praise for Goddard who both writes and directs here and it’s pretty clear that Bad Times at the El Royale is shaping up to be one of this year’s most intriguing releases.
The official synopsis is as follows:
Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past in 1969. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption… before everything goes to hell. A young concierge (Lewis Pullman) greets the strangers: a down-on-his-luck priest (Jeff Bridges), a singer (Cynthia Erivo), an impressionable Southern girl (Cailee Spaeny) and her older sister (Dakota Johnson), a vacuum cleaner salesman (Jon Hamm), and a charismatic cult leader (Chris Hemsworth).
These new images, which are teasing the impending arrival of a brand new trailer, also showcase a very diverse colour palette and the stunning cinematography of Seamus McGarvey.
Bad Times at the El Royale definitely has my attention and I’m very intrigued for the both the release of the first trailer and it’s arrival in cinemas on October 18.
