Sky NZ & BBC Scotland unveil the chilling psychological thriller ‘The Ridge’
A haunting new chapter in international television is about to unfold as The Ridge, an all-new six-part psychological thriller, makes its debut on Sky Open this Tuesday 21 October at 8.30pm, with all episodes streaming on NEON and BBC iPlayer the same day.
Filmed across the wild landscapes of New Zealand and Scotland, The Ridge draws viewers deep into a shadowy web of grief, obsession, and buried secrets. At the centre of the storm is Lauren Lyle (Karen Pirie, Outlander), delivering a career-defining performance as Mia — a woman running from addiction and professional ruin in Scotland, only to find tragedy waiting on the other side of the world.
Watch the all-new trailer for The Ridge below:
Arriving in New Zealand for her estranged sister’s wedding, Mia instead discovers her sibling dead. What begins as heartbreak quickly spirals into something far darker, as she becomes entangled with her late sister’s fiancé, Ewan — played with magnetic intensity by Kiwi star Jay Ryan (It Chapter 2, Top of the Lake, Territory). Their volatile connection ignites a chain of events that exposes the simmering tensions of a small community where everyone has something to hide, and the truth cuts deep into the town’s fragile heart.
The stellar supporting cast includes Dulcie Smart (Rematch), Florence Hartigan (Madam), Chloe Parker (Grafted), David Van Horn (Sweet Tooth), Taqi Nazeer (The Control Room), Claire Dargo (River City), and Cora Bissett (Annika).
Behind the camera, The Ridge brings together an incredible lineup of creative talent. The series was created by acclaimed novelist Nora Chassler and BAFTA Scotland-winning producer David Murdoch, co-written with Alan Campbell and award-winning New Zealand writers Kate McDermott and Jess Sayer. Direction comes from two genre powerhouses: BAFTA-winning Scottish director Douglas Mackinnon (Good Omens, Line of Duty, Doctor Who) and Emmy-nominated New Zealand director Robyn Grace (Sweet Tooth, Spartacus).
A bold collaboration between Great Southern Studios (New Zealand) and Sinner Films (Scotland) for BBC Scotland and Sky New Zealand Originals, The Ridge stands as a gripping fusion of atmospheric storytelling and emotional depth. Supported by New Zealand On Air, the NZ Screen Production Rebate, and Screen Scotland, with global distribution handled by Boat Rocker Studios, this is a drama made on a truly international scale.
Dark, emotional, and steeped in mystery, The Ridge promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats as it explores the thin line between guilt and redemption.
The Ridge premieres 21 October on Sky Open, NEON, and Sky Go in New Zealand, and on BBC iPlayer in the UK, before its BBC Two broadcast on Thursday 23 October.
Get ready — the truth lies in The Ridge.
