Chills and emotions run together in the haunting new trailer for Prime Video’s ‘Carrie’

Following the first reveal of Prime Video’s Carrie, a bold and utterly timely new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic horror story of a shy girl who is pushed to far, and which leads to a grisly end, we’ve now got out first look at the all new adaptation from acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan… and it’s going to be a scream.

Here’s the official synopsis:
A reimagining of the story of misfit high schooler Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden death, Carrie finds herself contending with the challenges of attending high school, a bullying scandal, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.
With this first footage of Carrie in play what we see is a classic narrative re-interpreted for the social media age, and being now even more so relevent than ever before. With instances of cyber-bullying being at an all-time high, this story of a shy high school girl caught up in the torment of the ultimate pack of mean girls is sure to hit even harder than before.
This new trailer also showcases a Carrie that feels like it will really hit different for audiences this time around. Flanagan is aware of the place in which this story has in popular culture, and with his own adaptation of Carrie he’s been very open that he’s looking for a new way into the narrative and character of Carrie White, and this trailer fully cements that.
Series star Summer H. Howell gives an incredibly nuanced and layered performance of a shy, reclusive girl who just wants a friend, and while there will be some utterly horrendous and mental horror moments on display, the real pull of this series is the focus of Carrie White herself, this girl who just wanted a friend, longing and connection and to belong. The tragic notes are very present, and this series will really hit home for a lot of viewers because of it.
Howell appears to be utterly excellent in the lead role of White, with her full vulnerability on display, and it’s going to be emotional to watch her go to limits of pure terror with this one. She’s also backed up by an incredible supporting cast including the likes of Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White; Carrie’s religious and abusive mother, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell; a popular student who experiences remorse for partaking in Carrie’s bullying, Amber Midthunder as Rita Desjardin; Carrie’s gym teacher who defends her against her bullies, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross; Sue’s goodhearted boyfriend who agrees to take Carrie to the prom, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen; the ringleader of a pack of mean girls who bullies Carrie, Arthur Conti as Billy Nolan; Chris’ juvenile delinquent boyfriend, Josie Totah as Tina Blake; Chris’ best friend and co-conspirator in a senior prom prank against Carrie, and Matthew Lillard as Henry Grayle; the principal of Thomas Ewen Consolidated High School.
All eight episodes of Carrie are set to premiere on Prime Video on October 7, and this is classic horror delivered fresh, and it will be utterly unmissable.
