The world-famous HobbitonTM Movie Set was brought to life on December 10 as voice cast, filmmakers and fans gathered to celebrate the upcoming release of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Following the New Zealand premiere screening of the film at Hoyts Te Awa – which brought cheers and applause from the audience – the celebration event at Hobbiton was hosted amidst the lush greenery of Middle-earth, offering an unforgettable evening.

Attending the celebration event were voice cast members Brian Cox, Miranda Otto, Gaia Wise, Laurence Ubong Williams, Luca Pasqualino and Lorraine Ashbourne. Joining them were the filmmakers Director Kenji Kamiyama, Executive Producer Sir Peter Jackson, Producers Philippa Boyens, Joseph Chou, and Jason DeMarco, Screenwriters Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, Composer Stephen Gallagher, and Artists Paris Paloma and Drax Project. Adding to the star-studded lineup was Andy Serkis, whose iconic performance as Gollum remains a cornerstone of The Lord of the Rings legacy.

Upon arrival, the talent was welcomed by Ngāti Hinerangi with a moving pōwhiri, adding to the rich legacy of connection between The Lord of the Rings franchise and Aotearoa New Zealand. Guests were treated to guided tours of Hobbiton, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic movie set that remains a symbol of Tolkien’s fantastical world.

The evening concluded with a thank you toast by Producer Philippa Boyens, followed by Drax Project’s Ben O’Leary and Matt Beachen performing “Hama’s Song” from the film’s soundtrack, and then an unforgettable set by New Zealand’s own Drax Project.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is now in cinemas.
